"Don't raise your voice, improve your argument" - Desmond Tutu

General Club Statement

This club is an avenue where people seeking to share their thoughts and questions can do so and receive opinions, constructive criticisms, suggestions, and maybe even answers. Such topics include philosophy, political science, psychology, history, ethics, law, religion, and other fields from the humanities and social sciences. This club may not cater towards STEM fields, but it is not closed to them. In fact, we encourage students from different fields to participate so that all can benefit from listening to diverse perspectives. If you have any deep questions, theories, or arguments, whether they be controversial or otherwise, feel free to let them be known and prepare to listen to what others have to say. Hopefully you will receive something meaningful out of it.

Topic/Question examples include...

  • Should abortion be allowed?

  • Which is real - Moral Objectivity or Moral Relativity?

  • What is a possible solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict?

  • How can our modern worldview be shaped by the radical concepts introduced in quantum physics (compared to the Newtonian worldview)?

  • Are there differences between the sexes, and if so, which ones are significant?

  • In Plato's Republic, why wasn't piety mentioned as part of the cardinal Greek virtues?

  • What religions were born from Ancient China?

  • How can the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament be interpreted? Was it a literary sin, as Nietzsche would put it?

  • Motivation is said to be irrelevant in the determination of guilt, but is that true considering the existence of mitigating and aggravating factors in which motivation is put at the forefront?

Sessions will be held once a month, on a day designated by club members, and will last up to 2 hours. Snacks will be available for in-person meetings. Other clubs, professors, or speakers may join us in our meetings.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, meetings may be held on online platforms such as Zoom.

This club is predicated upon respect for civil discourse and as such, everything is up for discussion.
